Three storeys up is no place to take a call.

Roofing calls come in two kinds: quote requests when the weather's good, and leaks when it isn't. AlloPlace answers in English or French while you're on the job, books estimates into your calendar, and makes sure the active leaks reach you.

The calls you get

In spring and early summer, it's mostly estimates. Shingles are curling, the neighbour just had theirs done. After a windstorm, it's missing shingles and water stains, all at once, from every part of town. In late winter, it's ice dams and water dripping down the inside of a wall. Add insurance adjusters and people you already quoted asking when you can start.

In one study of 70+ million calls to home-services businesses, only about half reached a person.¹ The ones who don't reach you call another roofer.

What it does for you

Books estimates the way you do them. Roof inspections and quotes, in the slots you choose, at the length you set. A reminder goes out the day before if the caller agrees, so you're less likely to pull up to an empty driveway.

Tells leaks from quotes. Water coming in right now is urgent. A roof that "needs looking at" is an estimate. Your rules decide which is which.

Covers storm days. It takes several calls at the same time, so nobody gets a busy signal the morning after the wind.

Takes messages adjusters can use. Name, company, claim number and the address, waiting in your inbox.

Knows your season. If you stop shingle work in deep winter, it says when you start again and still offers an inspection.

A typical call

It's a March evening in Lévis. A caller says there's a brown stain on the bedroom ceiling and it's getting bigger. AlloPlace asks how fast it's spreading, whether water is dripping, and whether there's attic access. Your rule says leaks after 6 p.m. become an urgent message, so it takes the address and details and texts you an alert. You call back from the kitchen table with the whole story in front of you.

TBD: replace with a real call once a customer agrees.

Rules you might write

  • "If water is coming in right now, transfer to my cell between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. After 6, take a message and text me."
  • "We don't do flat roofs. Say so and suggest they call a commercial roofer."
  • "Estimates are free. Book them on weekdays, one hour each."
  • "If an insurance adjuster calls, take their name, company and claim number."

Good to know

  • Calendar or software: books into Google Calendar only. If your leads live in a roofing CRM, there's no direct connection. The API and webhooks can send call details on, if someone sets that up.
  • Photos: it can't take photos during a call, and it doesn't reply to texts on its own. You reply to texts by hand from the inbox.
  • Payments: it doesn't take deposits or card numbers.
