Breaker off, headlamp on, phone ringing.

You're working in someone's panel and the last thing you want is to take a call. AlloPlace answers in English or French, books the estimates, and passes the calls that sound dangerous straight to you.

The calls you get

Half the house has no power. A breaker keeps tripping. Someone just bought an electric car and wants a charger in the garage. An insurer told a homeowner to replace an old panel. A general contractor wants to know if you can do the rough-in next week. And after every storm, people call about an outage only the utility can fix.

Some of those are good jobs. A few aren't yours at all.

What it does for you

Books estimates for the bigger jobs. EV chargers, panel upgrades, basement wiring. It books them in your Google Calendar at the length you set, on the days you choose.

Puts the scary ones through. A burning smell, a sparking outlet, a breaker that won't stay on. You name the words, it transfers to you or the on-call electrician.

Sorts out the outage calls. If the whole street is dark, write a rule and it tells callers kindly to check with their utility instead of booking a truck.

Asks what you'd ask. What's off, how old the house is, whether anything smells hot. You get a summary and the transcript.

Handles contractor calls. A builder asking about your schedule doesn't need to wait for you to finish a job. It takes the message or puts them through to the office.

A typical call

It's a Tuesday afternoon in Longueuil. A homeowner has just bought an electric car and wants a charger installed. They ask what it costs. You've written that installs start at a set price and the final quote comes after a site visit, so that's what AlloPlace says. It offers Thursday morning or Friday afternoon from your calendar, books Thursday, and sends a confirmation text. The caller says yes to a reminder the day before.

TBD: replace with a real call once a customer agrees.

Rules you might write

  • "If someone mentions smoke, a burning smell or sparks, tell them to call 911 first, then transfer to the on-call number."
  • "If the whole street has no power, it's an outage. Suggest they check with Hydro-Québec and don't book a visit."
  • "EV charger and panel upgrade estimates go on Tuesday and Thursday mornings only."
  • "We only do residential work. Take a message for commercial jobs."

Good to know

  • Calendar or software: books into Google Calendar only. If your jobs live in Jobber or another field-service app, there's no direct connection yet. Talk to us first.
  • Prices: it only quotes prices you've written down. If you don't give a number for panel upgrades, it says you'll quote on site.
  • Not an emergency service: for fire or danger, it tells callers to call 911. It doesn't call anyone for them.
